Yuko Fukuba Johnsson is a Japanese ceramic artist based in Hong Kong who creates "Memory Containers" to preserve personal and collective moments. Fascinated by ceramics as a symbolic medium of containment, she explores how this ancient craft holds physical objects alongside beliefs, wishes, and intangible emotions. Her work transforms ephemeral experiences into enduring forms, giving physical shape to the invisible—feelings, memories, and hopes.
Originally from Tokyo, Yuko began her creative journey as a photographer, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography. She subsequently spent two decades as an advertising creative at global network agencies, relocating to Hong Kong in 2013. After completing three years of foundational training at a local pottery studio, she enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) program co-presented by RMIT University and the Hong Kong Art School in January 2020. She has since shifted her focus to ceramic art, leveraging her extensive advertising background to translate deep human insights into structural concepts.
Graduating with distinction in December 2023 with seven institutional awards and a scholarship, Yuko launched an active studio practice exhibiting in group shows and art fairs. Following her debut duo exhibition, “Moments”, she was awarded the prestigious EKWC Grant for a three-month residency at the European Ceramic Work Centre in the Netherlands starting October 2026.
